A MAN aged 21 has been attacked by two machete-wielding intruders, and is in hospital with serious injuries.
Armed police officers spent five hours carrying out land and property searches following the attack, which was reported at 2am yesterday.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “At approximately 2am yesterday officers received reports of an attack at a property in Darfield, Barnsley.
“Police believe two men entered an address and attacked a 21-year-old man with a machete-type weapon, in what officers believe was a targeted attack.”
The force spokeswoman added: “The 21-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
“His condition is not thought to be life threatening.”
Officers from the force’s armed response unit took to the streets and spent five hours searching for the offenders.
They arrested one man yesterday morning.
Police are still hunting for a second suspect and their inquiries are continuing, the spokeswoman said.
Officers added that because the attack is believed to have been specifically targeted, there is no risk to members of the public.
Anyone with information about the attack should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
