Members of a karting club are appealing for help after thieves ransacked their premises causing more than £10,000 of damage.
A new ride-on lawn mover, a laptop and generators were stolen and buildings were damaged at South Yorkshire Kart Club, in Wombwell, Barnsley, during an overnight raid on Friday, July 24.
Volunteers at the 50-year-old club are appealing for help and materials to repair the damage in time for the Northern Federation Karting Championships, which the club is hosting on September 12 and 13.
Club secretary, Donna Baines, said: “We are determined the thieves aren’t going to beat us.
“We have had people offer their help – a joiner has offered his services and someone wants to give us a CCTV system, which is fantastic, but we need more help to try and raise the funds.
“We are all volunteers and the club is not-for-profit. All the money we do get goes to the Motor Sports Association.
“Unfortunately, because we are next to a bridle path we only have insurance for fire damage so we have to find the funds ourselves.”
Police are investigating the burglary, which occurred between 7pm on July 24 and 11.30am on July 25.
Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 482 of July 25, 2015.
