A woman who cooked her pet kitten in a microwave for five minutes has been jailed for 14 weeks.

Laura Cunliffe, aged 23, put four-month-old black-and-white Mowgli in the oven because she thought the little cat had attacked her goldfish.

RSPCA inspectors said it took a ‘slow and painful’ 90 minutes for the kitten to die.

Jailing Cunliffe at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court, district judge John Foster told her: “It was utterly barbaric.”

RSPCA deputy chief inspector Lynsey Harris said exposure to radiation in the microwave would have ‘cooked’ the kitten’s internal organs from the inside.

“It is unimaginable what it would have gone through,” she said.

Jobless Cunliffe is from Northumberland Avenue in Hoyland, Barnsley.
