A POLICE officer has warned the owners of licensed premises in Sheffield that he will take action if they continue to fail test purchase operations.
Inspector Simon Leake, of the Burngreave, Shiregreen and Firth Park Safer Neighbourhood Team, spoke out after five out of six businesses checked for whether they sell alcohol to children failed.
Two licensed premises in Shiregreen, one in Wincobank, one in Pitsmoor and one in Firth Park were caught selling to underage customers.
They each received £80 fixed penalty notices and Sheffield Council’s Licensing Authority has been informed.
Earlier in the month three out of eight shops in Firth Park and Shiregreen tested for whether they are prepared to sell knives to children failed checks.
Insp Leake said: “Frankly this is getting on my nerves.
“I will continue to test our licence holders across the area until I am satisfied they are recognising their duty to protect children. If it means challenging their fitness to be licence holders, I will.”
