Inquest opened into death of missing Dronfield man

The body of a man found on land in Sheffield has been confirmed as that of Kevin Herbert, who went missing from a nursing home a few days before.

Mr Herbert, aged 58, left Brookview Nursing Home, in Holmley Lane, Dronfield, overnight last Wednesday, January 22, and was reported missing when he failed to return a short time later.

A major search was launch involving South Yorkshire Police and mountain rescue team volunteers.

Members of the public were asked to check in their outhouses and sheds in case Mr Herbert had taken shelter.

His body was discovered near the Boundary Academy, off Jordanthorpe Parkway, on Saturday.

An inquest into the death has been opened at Chesterfield Coroners Court.

Detective Inspector Gemma Booth, from Derbyshire Police, said: “On January 25, shortly after 2pm a report was received that a body had been found in an open field at the rear of Boundary Academy on Jordanthorpe Parkway.”

She said that a member of the public found the body.

The hearing was told Mr Herbert was seen on CCTV leaving the nursing home through the fire exit.
