SOUTH Yorkshire’s police helicopter is being used to fly over Handsworth and Richmond Park, Sheffield, on its way to and from incidents in a bid to stamp out anti-social behaviour.
Posters are on display in the suburbs warning residents that the chopper may be watching them from above.
PC Simon Kirkham, leading the initiative, said: “The helicopter is based close by, so such patrols are not costly and can occur when the helicopter goes to or returns from other incidents.
“The response has been fantastic. The word has got around and people know that it’s not just officers on the ground that are active in the area, we have air support too.”
Inspector Jason Booth added: “This initiative is really making a difference.”
