gypsies filmed racing horses on South Yorkshire roads for an episode of the My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding TV series could be prosecuted, police have revealed.
Officers from South Yorkshire Police are studying the episode screened on Channel 4 last week, after gypsies were recorded racing horses and traps in Doncaster - they were caught racing on both sides of the road while spectators followed in vehicles.
Chief Inspector Neil Thomas said: “The racing itself can cause a danger to participants and other road users.
“We are trying to work with the Gypsy and Traveller community to come to an arrangement where the activity is legal and safely managed. However, in light of the recent footage, we are making enquiries, with a view to prosecuting where it is apparent offences have taken place.”
