POLICE today renewed their appeal for help in tracing a hit-and-run motorist who killed a South Yorkshire man.
Peter Topping, aged 56, of Co-Operative Street, Goldthorpe, Dearne Valley, was found seriously injured outside his home at around 8.15pm on Thursday, December 29.
He is believed to have been lying in the road when he was hit.
Neighbours and medics battled to save him but he was pronounced dead in hospital.
Police issued a new appeal to trace the driver after family and friends attended Mr Topping’s funeral at Ardsley Crematorium.
Officers have handed out leaflets and put up posters.
Sgt Andy Noble said: “We’d like anyone with information about why Mr Topping was lying in the road or anyone who saw him there to contact us.
“We’re also keen to trace possible witnesses who were in a dark-coloured 4x4 and silver-coloured hatchback or estate-type vehicles. Both of these cars were seen leaving Co-operative Street at around 8.15pm that night.”
