CANDIDATES up for election to become South Yorkshire’s first ever Police and Crime Commissioner have been offically announced.
Essential information to help people have their say on who will manage the county’s policing in future will be dropping through letter boxes during the next week.
On Thursday 15 November people will be able to elect South Yorkshire’s first Police and Crime Commissioner. Booklets produced by the Electoral Commission will explain what the person elected will be responsible for and how to vote for them.
The booklets will be delivered to Sheffield’s 239,000 homes to ensure local people are aware of how they can have their say in the election for this influential new role.
John Mothersole, Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, is the Local Returning Officer for the Sheffield part of the election. He advised voters: “Please look out for the booklets that explain the background details of this important election so you can have your say about the choice of the person who will affect the quality of our everyday lives. “Many people find that postal voting is more convenient for them, but if you choose this option you will need to apply before the end of this month.”
You must be registered to vote by Wednesday 31 October to be able to vote and 5pm on the 31st is also the deadline for any requests for new postal votes or to change or cancel an existing postal vote or proxy appointment.
Application forms for postal votes or proxy votes are available on the Council’s website at www.sheffield.gov.uk/elections or phone the City Council’s Electoral Services Office on 0114 273 4093.
