Firefighters tackle arson attacks across South Yorkshire

Firefighters called out to a skip fire in Doncaster this morning discovered two gas cylinders dumped among the waste.

Crews had to cool the cylinders to avoid the risk of an explosion.

They were alerted to the blaze on Ouse Terrace, Conisbrough, at 4.30am.

The cause is not yet known.

Firefighters also dealt with a sofa set alight in woodland off Eldon Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, this morning.

Yesterday firefighters dealt with a field of standing corn found burning in Barnsley.

The blaze near North Royds Wood, Athersley North, was discovered at 5.15pm yesterday.

Four fire engines were sent to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Yesterday firefighters also dealt with a pile of wooden sleepers set alight on Salisbury Road, Maltby, Rotherham and a motorbike torched on Lady Oak Road, East Herringthorpe, Rotherham.

They were also called out to a tower block on Callow Drive, Gleadless Valley, after a rubbish chute caught fire.

Over the weekend bales of hay were set alight on Landseer Court, Flanderwell, Rotherham and Littleworth Lane, Monk Bretton, Barnsley.

A Mercedes was torched on Oldcotes Road, Dinnington, Rotherham and a transit van was set alight on Crookes Lane, Carlton, Barnsley.

In the early hours of Saturday an unattended garden burner set fire to some decking on Alexandra Crescent, Ardsley, Barnsley.
