CRACK cocaine, heroin and cannabis were seized by police when officers raided homes in Rotherham during a crackdown on drugs.

Officers swooped on properties in Eastwood and found crack cocaine worth £5,000, heroin with £500 and cannabis worth £500 as well as suspected stolen property worth around £3,000.

They made seven arrests before charging Nafees Alam, aged 20, and Aniece Alam, 21, both of Selwyn Street, Rotherham, with possession of drugs with intent to supply.

The men appeared at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday while a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman arrested for drug offences were bailed.

Another man received a caution for possessing drugs and a 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman arrested in connection with the recovery of suspected stolen property were also bailed.

Officers carried out high visibility police patrols during the day of action.

Superintendent Andrew Parker said: “This was a highly impactive operation in Eastwood and was a great success, due to the hard work of the Rotherham tasking team, local safer neighbourhood team and partner agencies.

“In addition to tackling the criminality and some of the prominent criminals who had been blighting the Eastwood community in recent weeks, Operation Clarage is about working closely with the council to address some of the underlying economic and social deprivation suffered in some of our neighbourhoods.”

Coun Roger Stone, Leader of Rotherham Council, said: “We are pleased to be supporting the police action to tackle drug crime and continue to work with our communities to bring people to justice.”
