Drivers warned about parking near crossings

POLICE patrols have been stepped up in Killamarsh following complaints about irresponsible parking near pedestrian crossings.

Reports have been made about motorists parking on the white zig zag lines in prohibited zones on either side of crossings on Bridge Street.

Signs have been put up warning motorists that they risk a £60 fine and three points on their driving licence.

Sergeant Tony Klenczar, of Derbyshire Police, said: “White zig zag lines are put down to stop vehicles waiting or parking near to crossings so that pedestrians have a clear view of the road.

“If motorists park there, they are putting pedestrians’ safety at risk.

“I would encourage drivers to make use of parking facilities a short distance away, behind the shops, even if stopping for just a few minutes to call at the cash machine.”
