The body 49-year-old Mrs Wild was found at a property in Thorne Road, Blaxton at around 6pm on Wednesday 26 February after concern was raised for her safety.

A post mortem examination concluded she had been strangled.

Raymond Wild was also found unconscious at the property but was arrested and later charged with Mrs Wild’s murder.

Detective Superintendent Richard Fewkes said: “I am pleased that all those close to Sheila Wild have been spared the ordeal of a criminal trial after the defendant pleaded guilty to murder.

“Whilst given recognition for his guilty plea, the judge accepted prosecution evidence that Wild was a controlling individual and the murder had been pre-planned.

“I hope Sheila’s family can take some solace in the knowledge that justice has been served.”
