A Doncaster burglar has been jailed for four-and-a-half years for a spate of five raids over two weeks.

Ashley Twiby, aged 27, of Allenby Crescent, Rossington, committed his crime spree in April and May and during one of the burglaries - in Hickleton, Doncaster - was caught by the owner of the house, who was left with facial injuries after a struggle.

Twiby, who pleaded guilty to five burglaries, committed the other four offences in Thrybergh, Ravenfield and Thurcroft, all in Rotherham.

He stole jewellery, cash and electrical items.

DC Neil Beresford, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Twiby gained entry to the property in Hickleton at around 5.30pm on Monday, 11 May, however he was disturbed by the resident when he returned home from work.

“We would always advise the public to call 999 in this type of situation and not to put themselves in danger, however it must be said that the victim showed tremendous courage on confronting him.”
