Police are hunting a burglar who sneaked into a 94-year-old woman’s house and told her he was looking for her cat.
The man, who did not steal anything, got into the house through a window.
He climbed back out when the pensioner threatened to call the police.
The incident on Orchard Close, Bolsover, happened at around 8pm on July 9.
Community Safety Inspector Russell Dakin said: “Although nothing was stolen this was quite a distressing incident for the victim, and we would urge anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us.
“While the weather is nicer people may be tempted to leave windows and doors open, but if you are outside or in another part of the house then it is much safer to make sure they are secure to help reduce the potential of a thief from getting into your home.”
