A man assaulted his girlfriend after an argument - over a sandwich.

Stephen Newton, aged 36, of Portland Avenue, Creswell, Derbyshire, asked his partner to make him a sandwich when she returned home after a shopping trip.

But when she asked him why he didn’t make her a sandwich, he threw a microwave, which landed on her foot.

John Cooper, prosecuting, at Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court, said: “The complainant has been in a relationship with the defendant for five years and she said it has been mostly good with rocky periods.”

“She said he can be jealous and accuses her of having an affair and he takes amphetamines.”

Newton, pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage and will be sentenced later this month.
