FOOTBALL fans travelling to Hillsborough for the derby tomorrow are being urged to use public transport to try to prevent traffic congestion in the city.
The match between Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, is expected to attract a crowd of 34,000.
South Yorkshire Police are advising fans to allow plenty of time for their journey to the ground and to get there early for the ticket-only game at 1pm.
Nobody thought to be under the influence of drink or drugs will be allowed into the ground.
A team of 350 police officers will be on duty, monitoring fans before, during and after the game.
Metal crowd control barriers will be used outside to keep fans apart.
Supt Simon Verrall, responsible for policing the derby, said: “We want the game to showcase the city, and we want everyone who is attending the game to have an enjoyable time in support of the teams.”
