tWO smokers have been fined after they were caught dropping cigarette ends in Chesterfield.
Gareth Edwards, of Thornbridge Avenue, Sheffield, was fined £87.50 and ordered to pay court costs of £50 for dropping a cigarette on High Street, New Whittington.
Michael Furniss, 22, of Station Lane, New Whittington, was fined £175 and ordered to pay £100 costs for dropping his cigarette on High Street, Staveley.
Both cases were heard at North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court, Chesterfield.
In another hearing, Jason Rice, 33, of Duke Street, Staveley, was fined £175 and ordered to pay £100 costs after failing to clear up after his dog fouled a public place.
Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council’s executive member for the environment, said: “A high priority for our residents is that the council helps to keep our streets and parks free of litter and dog mess.
“These court prosecutions can easily be avoided if people act responsibility and use a bin.”
