A HUSBAND and wife from Sheffield have been arrested at a UK airport over alleged tax fraud offences.
The 50-year-old man and 47-year-old woman, who have not been named but are from Whirlow, were arrested at East Midlands Airport and taken for questioning as part of an investigation led by HM Revenue and Customs.
The offences are alleged to involve the evasion of income tax.
HM Revenue and Custom’s assistant director for Criminal Investigation, Peter Hollier, said: “I can confirm that HMRC officers have arrested two people on suspicion of defrauding the taxpayer.
“I cannot give any specific details regarding the investigation at this time as enquiries are ongoing.”
