Chesterfield man jailed after leaving fingerprint behind at crime scene

A burglar has been jailed after leaving his fingerprint at a crime scene in Chesterfield.

Shane Smith, aged 29, broke into a house on Derby Road overnight on between October 14 last year and stole a flat screen TV, laptops and a number of DVDs.

Police scenes of crime experts examined the house and discovered a fingerprint on the kitchen door which led them to Smith.

The print was put into a police database and a match with Smith came up.

Smith, of Birchwood Crescent, Chesterfield, was sentenced to two years behind bars after pleading guilty to burglary.

He also asked for an offence of shoplifting at Tesco Express, Derby Road, on October 2 last year, to be taken into account by the judge.
