Detectives investigating the assault of a 16-year-old boy as he travelled on a South Yorkshire bus have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak with.

Police say the teenager was assaulted in an ‘altercation’ while he was a passenger on the number 218 bus between Barnsley and Rawmarsh on Monday, August 5, at about 4pm.

The boy was left with injuries described as ‘ minor bruising’ after the incident.

A spokesman said: “Police would like to speak with the man pictured on the CCTV image, as he may hold vital information about an altercation on a bus.

“On Monday, August 5, at about 4pm, police received reports that a 16-year-old boy had been assaulted whilst on the number 218 bus, which was travelling between Barnsley and Rawmarsh, Rotherham.

“The boy suffered minor bruising following the incident.”

The man in the picture is described as white, about 6ft, of stocky build and aged between 30 and 40.
