Police investigating an assault where a man was attacked with a broken bottle in Sheffield city centre have issued a CCTV appeal.

A 21-year-old man was chased through the streets of the city centre before he was assaulted in the early hours of the morning.

Despite officers carrying out extensive enquiries since the attack happened of Saturday, January 3, no arrests have been made.

They have now issued an image of a man they believe could hold vital information.

South Yorkshire Police said the victim was involved in an altercation with an unknown man in a bar in West Street, at about 3.40am on Saturday, January 3.

Following the altercation, the man was on West Street with his girlfriend when he was chased by the unknown male.

At the junction of Rockingham Street and West Street, officers said the unknown man used a smashed bottle to attack the man.

The attacker is believed to have fled the scene in a white Mercedes Benz car.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and neck and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been released from hospital.

Police have issued an image of a man they wish to speak to who could hold vital information about the assault.
