A South Yorkshire family has been left devastated at the death of their cat after it was shot dead.
The Bengal cat was discovered injured in its owner’s neighbour’s garden on Moat Lane, Wickersley, Rotherham.
The family pet was rushed to a vet’s but could not be saved and died a short time later.
Acting Sergeant Wayne Nuttall, from South Yorkshire Police, overseeing the investigation, said: “The cat was a much loved family pet and this act of cruelty has caused the owners a great deal of distress and upset.
“I would appeal to the public for any information that may assist us in identifying who is responsible.”
The injured cat was found between 9pm and 11pm on Monday, August 18.
Police want to hear from witnesses to the shooting, anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area that night or anyone with information about the culprit.
