Cars set alight in spate of arson attacks over South Yorkshire

Firefighters dealt with a spate of vehicle blazes in South Yorkshire over the weekend - some of which were torched in arson attacks.

On Saturday morning crews were alerted to a vehicle which had caught fire on the M1 motorway.

They found the burning vehicle on the southbound carriageway between junctions 36 and 37 - Hoyland and Dodworth.

That night they dealt with a Peugeot 208 found burning on West Way, Barnsley.

The car had been deliberately set alight.

And at 8.25pm on Sunday crews were alerted to a blaze on Silverdales, Dinnington.

A Vauxhall Astra had been set on fire.

In the early hours of today firefighters dealt with a car found engulfed in flames on Red Hill, Kiveton Park, Rotherham.

The car was so badly damaged firefighters were unable to establish the make or model.

They also dealt with a van found alight on Wharncliffe Avenue, Wharncliffe Side, Sheffield.

It is not known how today’s fires started.
