Two burglars who raided a string of homes across South Yorkshire - targeting properties when caravans and camper vans moved off driveways - have each been jailed for seven years.
James John Burke, aged 28, of Apple Grove in Auckley, Doncaster, and Simon Robert Bellwood, 36, of Ferndale View, Doncaster, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary and were imprisoned at Sheffield Crown Court.
They burgled homes in Rotherham and Doncaster as well as properties in Humberside and North Yorkshire.
Between March and May 2013 the trawled the streets looking for homes with caravans and camper vans parked outside and broke into the properties when the occupants were on holiday.
PC Andy Hotchkiss, who investigated the burglaries, said: “This team was highly sophisticated and organised in their approach to committing crime. They entered into an agreement and conspired together to commit a string of burglaries all over the Yorkshire and Humber region.
“The pair would commit the burglaries and then off-load the valuable jewellery on unsuspecting jewellers, getting the highest price possible for their ill-gotten gains.”
