A WOMAN has been jailed for two years and five months for burgling a house after smashing a kitchen window and stealing the keys to the conservatory.
After unlocking the door Kay Nixon, aged 34, of Highlow View, Brinsworth, Rotherham, stole jewellery from the house on Godric Drive, Brinsworth.
She was caught after the 13-year-old daughter of the owner of the house returned and disturbed her.
Nixon tried to run away but was caught by the teenage girl’s dad, who chased her and detained her until police arrived.
Police Constable Alex Dorlin said: “To enter a house and take items not belonging to them is bad enough, but for the family’s 13-year-old daughter to come home from school and find the offender in her house is just not right.
“People believe that their family and property are safe in their homes. A custodial sentence for Kay Nixon can provide reassurance to the community that we will catch and punish offenders.”
