A teenage boy was left with a black eye and badly shaken after he was ambushed by a gang of eight thugs.
Christopher Woodward was walking his girlfriend home from a bus stop on Prince of Wales Road, Manor, when he was approached by the youths.
They hit him in the face, head and neck and one even threw a bike at him during the five-minute ordeal near Park Academy School.
Christopher’s mum Gillian, 51, said: “He is 17 but he’s a young 17. He’s never in trouble.
“He was taking his girlfriend home from a bus stop and delivering to her grandma’s house. The next thing, they were attacked by eight youths on bikes.
“He had to flee the scene because they wouldn’t stop. They were punching him about the head – five or six of them were punching him.
“It could have been a different story – one even threw a bike at him.”
The mum-of-five added: “It’s really concerning that they’re going around in gangs and causing this kind of mayhem.
“I want to say this cannot happen. This is animal behaviour. It shouldn’t be allowed – I say the parent should be fined for anything their children do.”
Christopher, of Gleadless Townend, who has a number of conditions including asthma and speech and learning difficulties, was taken to A&E after the attack last Thursday evening at about 8pm.
Call police on 101 with information about the attack.
