A boy aged 16 is being quizzed by detectives today on suspicion of raping a woman in a Rotherham park.
The teenager was arrested following a report that a woman was attacked in a Wickersley park, off Warren Road, at 6.30pm on Monday.
Police chiefs stress that the attack is being treated as ‘an isolated incident’.
The park was cordoned off yesterday while officers examined the scene and carried out inquiries.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers in Rotherham have arrested a 16-year-old boy following a reported rape in a Wickersley park.
“Police in Rotherham have launched an investigation and are reassuring members of the public that this was an isolated incident.”
The victim is being supported by specially trained officers at this time.”
