Two pubs have been banned from selling alcohol for 48 hours for serving alcohol to underage children on two occasions in a three-month period.
The Royal Oak, Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, and Joplins in the Market Place were served with police ‘closure notices’ for ‘persistently selling alcohol to children’.
Both were caught in an operation mounted by police and trading standards, when children were sent into pubs to buy alcohol in a bid to find those which flout the law.
PC Akeel Hussain, of the police licensing team in Chesterfield, said: “We will take action against any licensed premises that break the law.
“With the busy Christmas period on the way, I encourage licensed premises to be extra vigilant and encourage staff to ask anyone who looks under the age of 25 for ID.
“This will make it harder for young people to obtain alcohol illegally.”
