A GERMAN Shepherd dog found dead in the grounds of Bolsover Castle had been stabbed to death.
The body of the female dog was found around midday on Sunday November 13.
An RSPCA examination of the dead dog led to the discovery of ‘suspicious stab-type injuries’ which officers believe may have been caused deliberately.
The dog was brown and believed to have been three or four years old.
The RSPCA animal charity is now appealing to anyone for anyone may recognise the description of the dog, or who may know who her owner is, to come forward with information.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “We have reason to believe this dog was deliberately killed and her body then dumped in the stream.
“This is an unusual location and therefore we would urge anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact the RSPCA.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who may know who the owner of this dog is.”
n Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234999.
