A BOBBY posing as a car thief is going on the prowl across north Derbyshire to look for insecure vehicles at risk of break-ins.
The officer, dressed as a ‘Smash n Carry Harry’, is visiting Clay Cross, Shirebrook, Dronfield, Bolsover and North Wingfield with uniformed officers to hand out crime prevention advice to motorists whose cars are left open or with property on show.
The initiative is part of Operation Rocky, a month-long campaign targeting serious acquisitive crime, such as burglary and car crime.
Community Safety Partnership Sgt Paul Smith said: “Car crime can increase around this time of year due to darker evenings and items such as Christmas presents being left on show.
“Hopefully these patrols will increase awareness.”
