two bikes worth a total of £8,000 were pinched from a shop in Chesterfield - and a stolen van involved in the getaway later failed to stop after a crash in Sheffield.
JE James Cycles, in Brimington Road North, was broken into in the early hours of Friday, when a white Suzuki Carry panel van pulled up at around 2.05am and a man forced the door open.
Once inside he cut security chains from two bikes and loaded them into the back of the van, which had been reported stolen.
Shortly after the raid the van - registration YP04 LKA - was involved in a collision in Crookes, Sheffield, but did not stop at the scene. The van is still missing.
The thief was white, stocky, and wearing a blue and white striped hooded top and brown or beige bottoms, possibly combat trousers.
The bikes are a Kona Stinky Air and a Lapierre Zesty.
