TWO neighbours appeared in court on the same day for falsely claiming benefits to the tune of £27,000 between them.

Separate investigations found Lisa Williams and Katy Spaughton, both aged 30, and from Springfield Avenue, Shirebrook, North Derbyshire, had failed to declare they were living with their partners, who were in full time employment, while they continued to claim housing benefit, council tax benefit and income support.

Williams claimed over £11,800 between August 2009 and April 2011 while claiming to be a lone parent.

Spaughton claimed over £15,300 between November 2008 and February 2011 while also claiming to be a lone parent.

Both pleaded guilty at court in Chesterfield and were each sentenced to 200 hour unpaid work orders.

The women were also ordered to repay the money they falsely claimed.
