This defenceless dog was dumped in a wood and left for dead after being savagely beaten.

The dog, a Staffordshire bull terrier cross, was found with head injuries tethered to a pole in woodland off Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, Barnsley.

The attack she had suffered has left her blind in one eye.

RSPCA inspector Jo Taylor said: “Not only was this poor dog in a very poor condition but she had been callously abandoned alone in woodland, and had sustained serious injuries to her head.

“The vet believes these injuries are consistent with the dog having been beaten with a blunt implement, not an accidental injury such as a collision.

“The dog is receiving ongoing veterinary treatment and we hope she will make a full recovery.

“But it is really heartbreaking that someone could put this poor dog through such a horrendous ordeal.

“Luckily she was found and is now in safe hands. We will do all we can to find who did this to her.”

The dog, now named Aly, is being cared for at the RSPCA’s Sheffield branch.

n Anyone who recognises her should call the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
