Barnsley pensioner tackled to floor by robber

A woman was tackled to the floor by an intruder during a robbery in her own home.

The 66-year-old answered a knock at her door in Barnsley and found a man on her doorstep who asked if she would phone for a taxi for him.

Police said as the woman attempted to close her door a second man approached her and tackled her to the floor.

The two men then stole the woman’s handbag before running off in the direction of Princess Street.

Police said the victim was not seriously injured during the robbery.

The man who knocked on her door was white, 5ft 9ins tall, around 40 years old and had a pale complexion.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a black duffel coat with a grey hood pulled up.

The second man was wearing a grey hooded top with a black and white checked scarf covering his face.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the culprits should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1,042 of February 9 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
