A man who suffered life-threatening injuries in mysterious circumstance is making a ‘long, slow’ recovery in hospital.
Craig Howson was left with severe facial injuries and a brain injury after something happened to him as he walked home to Rotherham Road, Cundy Cross, Barnsley, from his sister’s house a few streets away.
The 33-year-old’s family had been told to prepare for the worst after the incident a month ago but he is now gradually recovering in hospital.
Det Insp Jade Brice, who is leading the investigation into the incident, said: “The outlook looked really bleak but now he is able to breathe on his own and he is able to communicate.
“His family are pleased that he is recovering.
“They now want answers about what happened to him.
“We are yet to interview Craig and are following the advice of the health professionals as to when we may be able to do that.”
Police have been carrying out a thorough investigation into the events of April 8 – but one month on they still need more information.
Craig had left his sister’s house at about 11pm. When he arrived home, he was injured but was unable to tell his parents what had happened to him.
At about the same time, an orange van had crashed into some bollards and was found abandoned at the side of the road.
Officers made arrests after the collision but so far have found to reason no believe the crash and Craig’s injuries are linked.
