Barnsley man jailed for horrific rape of woman, 88

A MAN who broke into the home of a terrified 88-year-old woman and raped her has been jailed for thirteen-and-a-half years for the horrific attack.

Anthony Borrowdale, aged 56, from Copeland Road, Wombwell, broke into the woman’s home, turned the lights out and threw her to the floor before subjecting her to a vile sexual assault.

His victim’s screams went unheard and the pensioner was unable to ring her lifeline alarm until he fled her home.

he was caught after police tracked him down due to forensic evidence left at the scene.

The incident happened on June 1.

Borrowdale was arrested and later pleaded guilty to the attack on October 2.

After the hearing Detective Constable Chris Horsley from South Yorkshrie Police said: “Thankfully this type of crime is very rare and it is good news that this dangerous man will be spending a considerable amount of time behind bars.”
