A PENSIONER’S handbag was pinched from her shopping trolley while she was buying milk in a supermarket.

The theft took place in Sainsbury’s on Wreakes Lane, Dronfield, at around noon last Tuesday, April 5.

A 76-year-old woman had hooked her bag on the back of her trolley.

As she turned to pick up milk from a shelf the bag was pinched. The bag contained cash, a mobile phone, bank cards and house keys.

PC James Mirfin, of the Dronfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, warned shoppers to keep an eye on their possessions.

He said: “It only takes a second for an opportunist thief to grab your bag or purse. Make sure it is secure and in view at all times.

“Be aware of your surroundings and vigilant to anyone acting suspicious or getting too close to you.”
