FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours battling to prevent a row of derelict terrace homes going up in flames.

Crews were called to Main Street, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, to find one house engulfed in flames and the blaze spreading to two neighbouring properties.

There were fears the entire row of houses would go up in flames, but firefighters from Dearne, Adwick and Doncaster stations managed to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the blaze, reported at 1.15am yesterday, has been logged as arson.
