FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a Rotherham school yesterday after a paper bin was deliberately set alight outside.

Crews were alerted to the blaze at Aston Academy, Aughton Road, Swallownest, at around 1pm.

They said the school did not need to be evacuated because the fire was not at risk of spreading to any classrooms.

Earlier in the day firefighters were called to woodland off Wellbeck Drive, Aston, after rubbish was found burning.

Crews from the town were also called to Warren Vale, Swinton, after trees were set alight.
