MASKED men armed with a knife and hammer threatened staff in a South Yorkshire shop before raiding the till and fleeing with £3,000 in cash and £1,000 worth of cigarettes.

The three robbers struck at the Co-op on Union Street, Harthill, in Rotherham on Sunday night when they burst in and threatened staff with their weapons before ordering them to empty the safe and tills.

Police said the trio all had their faces covered and were wearing dark clothing and that one was carrying a knife and another a hammer.

One members of staff was punched in the face during the raid.

Officers have CCTV footage showing the three men fleeing in a vehicle believed to be a silver Vauxhall Vectra with a registration similar to ‘KD06 CDE’.

It is seen being driven by a fourth offender away from the Co-op and down Hard Lane, before turning onto Wales Road.
