a MAN has been jailed for 16 years for raping and assaulting two young girls.

Darren Jeffrey, aged 36, of Central Drive, Calow, north Derbyshire, admitted two rapes, eight sexual assaults and four counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Derby Crown Court heard the offences took place in Chesterfield between 2006 and 2010 while the girls were under 13 years old.

In addition to his prison sentence Jeffrey was placed on the sex offenders register for life and is disqualified from working with children.

Detective Constable Chris Yapp, who investigated the case, said: “These girls knew and trusted Jeffrey and he took advantage of them and abused that trust. The sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes.”
