Former Sheffield Wednesday heroes made it a night to remember for a Mexborough teenager on her own comeback trail.
Chloe Newby, the 17-year-old Mexborough School pupil who survived a car crash which killed three of her friends just before Christmas, was the guest of honour at a sportsman’s dinner at the Pastures Lodge Hotel.
It was the first time Chloe had walked since the accident and she was determined to attend the event and meet guests Chris Waddle, John Sheridan and Phil King, who recounted tales from their glory days.
More than 250 people attended the dinner to raise cash for the teenager and in memory of her three pals. Some of it will go towards a bench in memory of her boyfriend, Jono Scott, and pals Lauren Birkett and Robert Tepper.
Chloe suffered a fractured skull, collapsed lung, broken pelvis and broken ankles in the Adwick crash.
