A couple were burgled at knifepoint by three masked men who barged their way into their Sheffield home.

The raid happened at the property in Dorothy Road, Hillsborough, at 2.30am on Sunday morning.

Police said the couple, aged in their forties, may have been targeted in a case of mistaken identity.

They were woken by noises at the back of their home and went downstairs to investigate.

The couple were confronted by three men, who forced their way into the kitchen.

A police spokeswoman said: “One of the men allegedly held a knife to the woman, with a second allegedly threatening the man with a knife.

“The third man then went upstairs in the property.”

The men stole an electronic tablet computer and the man suffered minor injuries in the raid.

DC Yvonne Fairbrother said: “The couple subjected to the burglary we believe may have been victims of mistaken identity.
“They are incredibly shaken by the incident and I would urge anyone who has any information, or who may have seen any suspicious vehicles in the area, to please come forward.”
