A SHEFFIELD couple who cancelled an £850 holiday after a family tragedy were left high and dry after both the travel company and their holiday insurers refused to pay them a penny.
Dave and Gail Beech were set to travel to Rhodes for two weeks to celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary, but eight days before departure they were told Mrs Beech’s father Derek was dying. Mr McDonald, aged 80, passed away on May 13.
The couple were dismayed when Ilkeston Co-op travel, of Middlewood Road, Hillsborough, refused to postpone the holiday until a later date - or refund a penny. And Insure and Go refused their claim because of a clause which denies cover due to any pre-existing medical condition affecting them - or a close relative.
Mr Beech, of Binsted Grove, Shirecliffe, said: “I’m disgusted that Derek is being used as an excuse to get out of the insurance claim. Everyone’s got parents.
“Why does the Co-op have to take the full amount and not an admin fee?”
AN INSURE and Go spokesman said they would look into the claim again and has asked the Beeches for more information. A Midlands Co-op travel spokeswoman said the lateness of the cancellation ruled out any refund.
