A married couple have been fined over £1,000 each for failing to carry out repairs at property they rented out in Catcliffe, Rotherham.

Landlords Kassim and Shalina Kurbanali, were ordered to pay £1,284.61 each after being convicted in their absence of failing to comply with an improvement notice at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard council officers inspected the property at Brinsworth Road, in 2013 and discovered loose fitting doors and windows, damaged roofing causing dampness, leaking toilets and a loose fitting shower cubicle.

There were no electrical or gas safety certificates.

Despite assurances the faults would be rectified no work was completed so the council decided to prosecute.
