A COUPLE out walking had to be airlifted to hospital after they got lost and one of them hurt their ankle.
The man and woman, from Bedford, were walking on Kinder Scout in the Peak District when they got caught out in the dark.
The woman was also unable to walk and getting cold, after hurting her ankle on the walk.
They gave their location as somewhere between Ringing Roger and Madwoman’s Stones, but because they were using a smart phone which was connected to the internet and had an inbuilt geographical locator mountain rescue team volunteers were able to pinpoint their exact location.
It is thought to have been the first time the technology has been used in the Peak District.
An RAF Sea King helicopter airlifted the couple to Leeds General Infirmary, which was the only one with a night landing facility available.
