There’s just one month to go until libraries in Sheffield start a new chapter – but the future of some has still not been decided.

Confidential negotiations are continuing regarding Walkley library, where two business plans were submitted to take it over, one from the community and another from The Forum Group of bars.

Library campaigners and volunteers are undergoing training so they are ready to take over on Monday, September 29.

Coun Iqbal said about the delay over Walkley: “The deadline was there for a reason but both groups are looking for a way forward and for me it is about working at their speed.

“Discussions we are having at the moment are confidential so it would be unfair for me to comment on the specifics.

“What I can say is we will have a library for the people of Walkley, and they will have an organisation running a library.

“The minute we have concluded our discussions people will know – we will see what happens in a week or two.”
