A SHEFFIELD councillor is hitting the road on two wheels to raise money for a cancer charity with an epic 400km bike ride.

Coun Peter Price, who represents Shiregreen and Brightside, plans to cycle from Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The 73-year-old cyclist will pedal six to 10 hours every day of the challenge in October, following a testing route over rough and mixed terrain.

Coun Price’s wife Janet died from cancer in 2000. Since then he has cycled across Ecuador, Mexico, Cuba, China and from London to Paris, as well as scaling Mount Kilimanjaro.

So far the councillor has raised almost £100,000 for Macmillan.

He said: “I’m fully aware that at my age, this promises to be an extremely testing physical challenge but really it’s very minor compared with the challenge cancer patients and their families face each day.”
