University team takes ice bucket challenge

More than 40 Sheffield University researchers took the ice bucket challenge – joining the global craze to raise awareness and funds for motor neurone disease.

The team from the Sheffield Institute of Translational Neuroscience endured buckets of ice cold water being dumped over their heads after receiving challenges from Western University in Ontario, Canada, and The University of Leuven in Belgium.

The campaign, which has already been supported by celebrities including David and Victoria Beckham, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, former US president George W Bush, and Sheffield’s own Michael Vaughan, was kicked off by the family of American baseball player Pete Frates who was diagnosed with MND.
